Your Care
Antenatal Care
Regular pregnancy appointments, screening, education and preparation for birth.
Together with your midwife, you will develop a birth plan that reflects your preferences and the needs of you and your whānau.
At your antenatal appointments, we monitor the wellbeing of you and your baby. This includes checking your blood pressure, assessing your baby’s growth and position through abdominal palpation, and listening to your baby’s heartbeat. With your consent, we arrange recommended blood tests and ultrasound scans to screen for pregnancy-related conditions. If any concerns arise, we will discuss these with you and consult with or refer you to the appropriate specialist services.
Labour and Birth Care
Individualised midwifery care and support throughout labour and birth.
We provide labour and birth care in your chosen birth setting — at home, in a primary birthing unit, or at Christchurch Women’s Hospital when tertiary care is required.
Should it be appropriate, we visit you at home in labour to plan when it is the right time to transfer to your preferred birthing location.
Postnatal Care
Ongoing care for you and your baby during the first six weeks after birth.
Postnatal visits are provided in your home, supporting you and your baby as you settle into life together.
During the postnatal period, we provide ongoing care and support for you and your baby during the first six weeks after birth. This includes regular checks on your physical and emotional wellbeing, monitoring your baby’s health and growth, and providing breastfeeding and feeding support. We can also offer practical guidance around parenting, settling your baby and creating a safe sleep environment, helping you feel informed and confident as you adjust to life with your new baby.
